Norway is home to a vibrant music department that focuses on developing independent musicians through engaging lessons, diverse music, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and plentiful informal and formal performances. Students are encouraged to think critically, be creative, and embrace growth mindset.
Norway offers their early kindergarten through fifth grade students one thirty minute period of general music a week. Sixth grade students all take beginning band so everyone has a taste of what it is like before deciding whether or not it something they would like to continue to pursue. First semester the students meet one hour a week in small groups. Second semester beginning band members meet three times a week in larger groups. Seventh and eighth grade students are provided the opportunity to be in either band, chorus, or both and meet on alternating days of the week. High school students are afforded the opportunity to be in band and chorus each of which meet five days a week. Outside of class students have access to ensembles such as vocal jazz and drumline which rehearse either before or after school on a weekly basis.
